Short history of our guesthouse

Pension Theresa is an almost 700 year old building of the Venetian era with some Turkish extensions.
Primarily it was used by Venetians and Turks as administrational offices. Plates with merchant/ trading records in Old Turkish script (Arabic) have been found and been given to the museum registers. It was then used as apartments for Turkish and Greek families. Each room was occupied by a single family. A kitchen was on each floor and families cooked together. In the 60’s it was bought by a young doctor ‘George’ (Giorgos) and used as a hippy commune. It was later run as a youth hostel by a neighbor of George (another George!) who fell in love with a girl from Britain called Carry-Theresa hence the name…

The Entrance of our hotel

Pension Theresa is a simple, relaxed guesthouse at the front of the Old Venetian Harbour. It is cozy, full of atmosphere and antiques bringing you back to the past... Ideal for people who enjoy culture, art and a... friendly chat.

Our visitors come from Greece and all over the world. During winter time we get many guests who are artists and writers. The view of the sea can be very inspiring.

Pension Theresa is situated in the West Side of the Old Venetian Harbour in the TOPANAS area next to the FIRKAS fortress. It is called Topanas because this is where the Turks used to have their cannons (Topia). During summer is a very beauutiful and lively area with lots of coffee shops, restaurants and colours. During winter is less hectic, quite and mysterious...
